Pride and Prep School Blog Tour

ABOUT PRIDE AND PREP SCHOOL (SNARK AND CIRCUMSTANCE #3) BY STEPHANIE WARDROP:

Title: Pride And Prep School (Snark And Circumstance #3)

Publication date: October 15, 2013

Publisher: Month9Books, LLC.

Author: Stephanie Wardrop

Georgia can’t figure out why the burden of a Y chromosome seems to make guys so hard to understand. First, there’s the handsome but slippery Jeremy Wrentham. After Georgia shared some pretty devastating kisses with him, she found her way home and he found her sister!

And then there’s Michael Endicott, who never fails to let her know that her family’s quirkiness lies too far outside the pale for this preppie townie. But if he really feels that way, why is he in Georgia’s kitchen, asking her out? And why don’t boys come with instruction manuals?

My Review:
★★★★☆

I found this YA story fun and easy to read. I really enjoyed the characters and their interactions. I felt that the book began and ended kind of abruptly for me. I had not read the other two books in the series before reading this one. The main character, Georgia, made several references that I assumed were having to do with the other books. This did not detract from the story at all. This can be read as a stand alone book.

Georgia has some bad luck when it comes to the guys in her life. She stays a little confused about how she feels about them and their treatment of her. She is often mean to Michael even though he seems nothing but nice to her. He is often saying things that she completely misunderstands and they both end up upset. I was confused as to her actions and reactions occasionally, but realize that mostly she has both trust issues and feels very protective of her family. Her over-reactions to his comments are sometimes sad, sometimes amusing, and always move the story in a different direction every time I thought I knew what would happen.

This story is very reminiscent of Jane Austen and with the title of the book and series, I assume that is deliberate. I enjoyed that it has some of the same basic elements set in today's society and norms. I enjoy Jane Austen's books immensely so I always like to find books that remind me of her works.

I was hoping for a happy ending to the story and felt that it left a lot to be desired. It is left open and I am hoping that another book is coming out that will tie up the loose ends. The writing and character development is spot on and I would enjoy reading the other books in this series.

I would recommend this book to anyone middle school age on up to adults that enjoy YA. There was nothing in here that I would not let my ten year old daughter read. I think she would enjoy the series. I will have to read the first two books and then recommend the series to her!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Stephanie Wardrop grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania where she started writing stories when she ran out of books to read. She’s always wanted to be a writer, except during the brief period of her childhood in which piracy seemed like the most enticing career option—and if she had known then that there actually were “girl” pirates way back when, things might have turned out very differently. She currently teaches writing and literature at Western New England University  and lives in a town not unlike the setting of Snark and Circumstance with her husband, two kids, and five cats. With a book out—finally—she might be hitting the high seas any day now.
